Stones & Structure.

Qaqortoq, Greenland.

A small library garden is situated on the riverbank between the town’s school and kindergarten.

Two stone platforms rise like islands from the existing terrain to form a small center area for the educational institutions. The bigger platform creates space for outdoor studying, dining, or just resting while the young ones play in the sculpture playground placed on the smaller one. An axis of grass and step-stones leads from the center of the library through the garden. It binds the  existing memorial for king Frederik IX and queen Ingrid to the library and library-garden.

The project started in 2010 and is still on the drawing board. It will be realized by Stokkar og Steinar and the turf network in cooperation with the Qaqortoq library and local entrepreneurs.
